Lisa Casavant and Maria FaganDid you know that women are half as likely as men to start businesses?

That's a statistic R&Q wants to help change. Aside from the importance of gender and fairness issues, women entrepreneurship fuels economic growth.

R&Q is Engineered by Women. We're proud to have been started and now led by our female co-founders and owners, Maria Fagan and Lisa Casavant. What they've accomplished and continue to accomplish over the course of their careers prove they are driven, visionary, and immensely influential in the medical device industry. They most certainly have been positively influential to R&Q's medical device clients. Since the LLC was formed in July of 2008, Maria and Lisa's mission has centered on customer and employee satisfaction. This has helped us grow to more than 70 QA/RA professionals - including former FDA staff and 25+ year industry veterans - and establish a corporate culture in the device industry that we think is second to none.

As it turns out, many of the most impactful contributors at R&Q are women, and this includes a large percentage of our experienced leadership team. Women hold key positions across operations, sales and marketing, and HR.

So what does this mean?

  • R&Q is actively involved in educating and employing female students and interns to entice female engineers and scientists into the medical device industry.
  • R&Q believes in the success of women-centric organizations and initiatives, particularly in the medical device industry. Examples include Women In Bio, the AdvaMed Women's Executive Network, and MedtechWomen.
  • R&Q’s highly experienced engineering staff, both women and men, have held the exact positions and titles that our clients hold today. We have “walked in your shoes” from junior engineer through EVP of R&D.
  • We are actively involved in organizations and support/attend events to encourage female industry professionals to strive for more.

Sallie Krawcheck is an inspiration. She was the president of Global Wealth and Investment Management at Bank of America, the CFO of Citigroup, and the CEO of Smith Barney and Sanford Bernstein. But what's she doing now?

She left Wall Street behind and bought Ellevate, a global network with tens of thousands of members that promotes women as business leaders. She also started Ellevest: an investment platform for women. In her view, 2016 will be a pivitol year for women entrepreneurship.

Sallie Krawcheck“2016 will be the year in which the forces of entrepreneurialism and feminism converge. Together, they will drive a long-wave, golden age of female entrepreneurship, which will be a positive for all of us: positive and empowering for the women who make the leap, good for the economy, good for consumers, and good for society.” - Sallie Krawcheck, CEO of Ellevest and chairman of Ellevate

We'll be continuously updating our Engineered by Women page with events, articles, and organizations serving this purpose. For updates on major happenings in this space and others, subscribe to R&Q's Blog.
