After reading Steve’s blog, "Why RQS Cares- The Race for the Place" and learning more about Race for the Place/The Gathering Place, I knew that I wanted to participate in this event. Soon thereafter, I was registered and ready to participate in RQS Cares’ first Ohio-based charity event!

This was the first time that I have participated in such an event, as an adult. Some people register for these types of events, in order to help motivate them to work harder on improving their physical fitness or health. Some people register for these types of events, because they have some sort of connection with the charity/cause. I decided to participate in the Race for the Place because of my connection with the fight against cancer and the need for a supportive community for those affected by it.

This past Sunday, June, 2, 2013 was the Race for the Place event, which was held at Beachwood Place in Beachwood, OH. The turnout and support for this cause was evident, especially when you looked at the sea of parked cars and tie-dyed t-shirts! There were over 4,200 registered participants in the Race for the Place and almost $350,000.00 was raised to help support The Gathering Place’s programs and services. Race for the Place was the first Ohio-based event that RQS Cares has participated in.

Specifically, RQS recruited 14 members for our Team and was able to raise $3,000.00 in donations (including team contribution, RQS Cares matching contribution, and additional donations). The RQS team (Cleveland Office and Pittsburgh Office) had an amazing time at the Race for the Place! One of our team members even placed in the “Top Five” time slots of completing the 5k for her age group – talk about impressive!

RQS Cares Race for the Place-06.02.13

I participated in this event in memory of my Aunt Jan and Stevie, a dear family friend.

I participated in the Race for the Place in support of and encouragement to my Uncle Rick and my friends Taylor and Janet.

I participated in memory of all who are no longer with us and for their loved ones.

I participated in this race in honor of every cancer survivor and every loved one who supports them.
